Privacy Policy for AIStoryWriter Extension

What information do we collect?

We collect the following types of information:

• Account Information: When you choose to sign in with Google, we use the Chrome Identity API to access your basic Google profile information, including your email address and name. This is used solely for creating and authenticating your account with our service.
• Anonymous User Information: If you use the Extension without signing in, we generate a random, anonymous identifier (a UUID) that is stored locally in your browser's storage. This helps us manage usage quotas for anonymous users and is not linked to any personal information.
• Usage and Error Data: We use third-party analytics tools (PostHog) to collect anonymous usage data and error reports. This helps us understand how the extension is used, identify bugs, and improve performance. This data includes actions taken within the extension and technical error details, but does not include the content of your stories.
• Story Content: We collect the information you provide to generate a story, which may include:
  • Character name and description
  • An image of a toy (if you upload one)
  • Story preferences such as location, moral lessons, or key items
  • Child's age and preferred language
• Technical Information: Our backend servers and analytics providers may automatically log standard technical information, such as your IP address and browser type (User-Agent), as part of normal operations for security and monitoring purposes.

How do we use your information?

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

• To Provide the Service: Your account information and story content are used to generate personalized tales and deliver them to you through the Extension.
• Authentication and Security: Your Google account information is used to secure your account and prevent unauthorized access. The locally stored authentication token and anonymous ID are used to manage your session.
• Usage Quotas: We use your authenticated account or anonymous identifier to track your usage of the story generation service and enforce free tier limits.

What information do we share?

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We only share information under the following limited circumstances:

• With our Service Providers: The information you provide is sent to our backend servers hosted at aistorywriter.app in order to process your requests and generate stories. We also use trusted third-party service providers (such as PostHog) to assist us in analyzing how the Service is used and to track errors. These providers have access to your information only to perform these tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.
• For Authentication: We interact with Google's authentication services (via the Chrome Identity API) to verify your identity when you sign in. We only receive basic profile information as described above.
• Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a legal obligation.

We do not share your personal data with any other third-party companies for marketing or other purposes.

Data Retention

We retain your account information as long as your account is active. Story content generated anonymously may be retained for a limited period to allow you to access it, after which it may be deleted. Story content for authenticated users is retained to provide you with your story history.
